In Loving Memory of William Henry Moore

William Henry Moore peacefully departed this earthly life on July 12, 2026, at the Henry J. Carter Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New York, New York.

William was born on June 6, 1939, in Bath, North Carolina, to the late Mary Moore and James Artis Moore. He was later lovingly raised by his aunt and uncle, Mary Eliza Waters and Levy Waters, who also preceded him in death. At an early age, William accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Mount Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Yeatesville, North Carolina.

He received his education through the Pitt County School System and proudly graduated from P.S. Jones High School in Washington, North Carolina, in May 1960.

Following graduation, William made the life-changing move to New York, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Greene. The two were united in holy matrimony on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1962. Their loving union was blessed with two children, Christopher J. Moore and Adrienne C. Moore. His beloved wife, Barbara Jean, preceded him in death on May 6, 1998.

William worked diligently to provide for his family, holding several jobs before finding his true professional calling as a bus operator with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). For many years, he safely navigated the streets of New York City until his well-earned retirement.

William was a man of action and a pillar of strength within his community. If someone was ill, needed transportation to a doctor's appointment, or simply required a helping hand with grocery shopping, William was always among the first to offer his assistance. He was also a dedicated member of Fidelity Lodge #61A A.F. & A.M., under the King Solomon Grand Lodge, Inc., State of New York.

When he wasn't helping others, William enjoyed spending time fishing or traveling back home to North Carolina to visit the family and friends he loved so dearly.

To know William was to know his voice. He loved to sing, and his rich, powerful voice had a remarkable way of lifting spirits—or, depending on the day, sparking a playful family competition. He especially enjoyed friendly singing battles with his sister, Blondell, and cherished harmonizing with his niece, Vanessa, and his daughter, Adrienne. He often teased Adrienne that she just couldn't quite reach those high notes like he could. William was an entertainer at heart, and his laughter, joy, and music brought happiness to everyone around him.

William was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend whose love and generosity touched countless lives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Moore; his brothers, James Artis Moore, Ronald Waters, and Levy Waters; and his sisters, Barbara Jane Moore, Thelma Riddick, Bonnie Fletcher, and Hazel Robertson.

William leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving children, Christopher Moore and Adrienne Moore; his brothers, Charles Moore and Garrie Moore; and his sisters, Betty Moore of New Jersey, Blondell Spruill of the Bronx, New York, Verna Mixon of Brooklyn, New York, and June Waters of Brooklyn, New York. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Mamie Waters, Jacqueline Moore, Henrietta Jenkins, and Carolyn Greene; his two adored grandchildren, Christopher Moore Jr. and Christiany Moore; his cherished great-grandchildren, Makayla Simmons and Tyler Moore; and his beloved goddaughter, Ronique Brown.

William's legacy also reaches lovingly into the future with the anticipated arrival of a precious granddaughter, who will grow up hearing stories of his kindness, his unwavering love, and the beautiful songs that filled every room he entered.

He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure the love, wisdom, and joy he shared.

William's kindness, generous spirit, unwavering faith, and the unforgettable sound of his singing voice will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy of love, service, and song will live on for generations to come.

May he rest in eternal peace.
