Obituary

Willia Mae Johnson McKeiver passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2021 at MUSC Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. Born on September 11, 1951 to Eula and Moses Johnson, she was born and raised in New York City. She attended the Public Schools of NYC and Charles Evans Hughes High School. She grew up in Harlem, 133rd Street and then 122nd Street, where she went to Christian Parish for Christian Renewal Church until her teenage years. She spent most of her summers in South Carolina. Willia worked as a Clerical Assistant in Banking and in Heathcare. She was very active in her building, the community, and in politics. Willia was even on television fighting building programs. When she moved to Florence in 2010, she started to become familiar with the Florence community and politics before her health started to fail. She was computer literate and was paying bills online long before it became popular. She enjoyed playing the computer games, all the games; she had a large library and had lots of computer viruses. Willia had no children, but never hesitated to help out a working mother with baby sitting and supported others with theirs. She supported St. Jude Children's Hospital through fund raising on Facebook on her birthday. Willia also supported family and friends through participating in fund raisers like bringing friends to dances, bus rides to A.C. and other programs. Willia's spiritual life was online. She would e-mail scripture and quotes. Proverbs 16:9 "In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." She was married to Alex Katara McKeiver who preceded her. She has spent the balance of her life with long time companion James (Jamo) Whitten. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; and nephew, Milton Baskett. Willia leaves to mourn: family and friends, Jamo; older brother, Moses Jr.; sisters, Barbara and Doriene; nephews and nieces, Doni, Damon Weldon and Crystal Poindexter of Hartville, SC, Ruby Peterson Bell and the Philadelphia family; first cousins, the Davis, Preston, Singletary, Witherspoon and Lee families; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. She never hesitated to say what she thought even if it meant cursing you out. She was real, you either loved her or not. She loved life.
