Obituary

Wanda Denise Latchman Meyers was born on January 28, 1963, to the late Ira Farr and Inez Marie Glenn in Nassau County, Long Island. She was reared by her adopted father, Gilbert Latchman Sr. and was the eldest of four children. Wanda was called home on Thursday, January 6th, 2022, after losing a year long battle with medical issues. Wanda attended P.S. 102, and J.H.S. 117 in East Harlem and graduated from Hughes High School in Manhattan, NY. After graduation, she attended Drake Business School and later earned an Associates Degree from the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Wanda worked as an Administrative Assistant for Sweetheart Records/Boogie Down Productions, and United Cerebral Palsy of New York. She later served as the Training Consortium Project Assistant for the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA). Wanda was also a lifelong Community activist and served East Harlem through several community activities and organizations including the Manhattan Borough President's Scott Stringer's Go Green East Harlem Steering Committee which initiated the East Harlem Conference on Green Building, East Harlem Farmers' Market, East Harlem Restaurant Week, Go Green East Harlem Cookbook, East Harlem Street Planting Plan, and the East Harlem Asthma Center of Excellence. Wanda also served as the Office Manager for the Democratic Club of El Barrio, member of Manhattan Community Board 11, District Leader, 68th AD, Part C, and Co-Chair for The American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Wanda Denise Latchman Meyers was an avid lover of music and the arts and enjoyed cooking, baking, attending various meetings, reading, and painting. She never shied away from expressing her views on life and was a true Bohemian Woman. In 1987, she met the love of her life and future husband Leonel, in the middle of the dance floor at Bentley's Discotheque. They later married and Wanda relocated to Staten Island, New York in 2013 and remained there until her passing. Wanda is survived by: her loving husband, Leonel Laurent Meyers; daughters, Schelequia Dee and Quemeena Ling Latchman; grandson, Jason Wright Jr.; brothers, Gilbert Jr and Barry Latchman; brothers, Darrell and Ronnie Farr; sister, Sarita Latchman; sister-in-law, Larauh Latchman; nieces, Kalisha Latchman, Destiny Forchand, Briana Latchman, Shylah and Nyesha Harris; nephews, Barry, Devell, Travis Latchman, and Louis Harris; grand nieces and nephews. as well as other immediate family, relatives, and close friends. Wanda was predeceased by her parents, Inez and Gilbert Latchman Sr., and her birth father, Ira Farr. Wanda was loved by many and will be missed much. May she rest in peace. Peace & Blessings
