She made a powerful and profound impact on the individuals she served, her staff, and her colleagues throughout her career.

She met William in New York in 1978. They were married at City Hall on June 6, 1986.

Vanessa leaves behind her loving husband of 36 years, William; son, Benjamin Allen (31years old); her lifelong friend, Yvette Hayes, whom she attended Junior High and High School, and undergraduate college with; in-laws, Juanita Burt of New York, James Eddie Germany, Moses and Cheryl Germany, Willie Albert and Diane Germany, Nellie Pearl Jennings, Ida Warthen, Annie Mae Germany, Genora Germany of Harlem, GA, Richard Germany, and Bernice G.
