Obituary

Glory be to God; Troy McPhatter was born on September 28th, 1967 in New York City to James McPhatter Sr. and Mary Rice. Growing up, Troy was shy with a heart of gold. He was always such a positive and inspirational individual. Troy was an excellent father who loved his children dearly. He was a laid back kind of person who came up with various nicknames for his loved ones and friends. He saw the best in people and made it his mission to encourage peace and love. His energy was so contagious, you had no choice but to love him. If anyone ever needed anything, Troy was always here to help. Troy, also known as DJ Outlaw to his family and friends, enjoyed life and had a passion for music. He was a loving, humble, funny, and heartfelt person. Troy had a huge heart and music was a way to his soul. As a young boy, he would sit on the floor by the radio listening to the music his mom would play. He loved playing music for people. One thing about Troy, if you needed to know a song all you had to do was hum it and within seconds he could tell you the artist, the song, and probably who produced it. It was his passion to make and see other people happy through his music. Troy knew from an early age that he wanted to be a DJ. He was a beast on the turntable and mastered the craft. Troy was preceded in death by his father James McPhatter Sr. and his brothers Donald McPhatter and James McPhatter Jr. Troy is survived by: his mother, Mary Rice-McGirt; step-father, Samuel McGirt; his children,Troy McPhatter and Byutifel Gewel-Aja McPhatter; his siblings, Doris Page, Robin McPhatter, Elaine Norford, Tim McPhatter, and Horace McGirt; his nieces and nephews, Tan-Kia McPhatter, Roni Norford, James Mcphatter III, Azure Dailey, Malik Norford, Brandi Dailey, Diamond Durham, Chloe Norford, Chaya Dailey, Osyrus McGirt, Kwame Norford,Tamia McPhatter, Jewel McGirt; his great nieces, Nariyah Hardey, Avianna Durham; and his brothers-in-law, Stuart Norford and Thomas Page; and sister-in-law, Sylvia McGirt and a host of cousins, family, and friends. Troy McPhatter entered the presence of the Lord on September 22, 2020. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
