Toni Abrom Thomas was born on June 11, 1957, at Harlem Hospital to her proud parents, Loretta Thomas and Abraham Cogdell. Toni attended New York Public Schools until she became pregnant and then went onto a Continuing Education School from which she graduated. She had four sons, Robert, Harold, Calvin, Derek, and two daughters Janell and Zakeeá.
Ms. Thomas, as everyone called her, was a warrior. She always spoke her mind, no matter right or wrong. She was known for her strength, being able to take control, never taking any prisoners, and helping anyone that needed her. Toni loved to dance, especially to that Bobby Brown song we all know she loved "My Prerogative."
As we all know, Ms. Thomas was mean when she wanted to be but had a big ole heart.
On December 4, 2019, her strong heart failed her, she was finally able to put all her pain to the side and went home to join her mother, father, stepfather David, sister Kim, brother David, and daughter Audrey.
She leaves behind to mourn: her children, Robert, Pop, Calvin, Zakeeá, Born, and Janell; grandchildren, Vanessa, Tanashia, Tamara, Sean-Cane, Leaha, Gaige, Maurice, Michallye, Mircale, Calvin III, Ashad, Aaliyah, and Darrion; great-grandchildren Eniya and Anella; sisters Marion and Robbin as well as her best friend/sons godmother/sister/aunt Barbara and Rhonda; uncles Louis and Lowell; as well as Latrell and her children; nieces and nephews, Cawona, Loretta, Shakar, Erica, Eddie, Latoya, Selena, August, Melvina, Asia, and Nicky; cousins, Lynette, Adrienne, Lowell Jr., Laura, Jackie, Ebony, Dana, Dee, and all their children.
Toni was not only our niece, sister, mom, grandmom, aunt, or cousin, but she was what some known as the "Neighborhood Mom." She was the definition of it takes a village to raise a child. We will all miss her and thank everyone for the continued love and support. Continue to keep her memory alive by dancing and singing your heart out just like she would.
