Thomas Neal Matthews was born on September 23, 1963 in Harlem, New York, NY. He was the youngest of seven children born to Wilhelmina "Sylvia" Matthews and Thomas Wells. He had five sisters, Denise, Althea, Berlita, Tammy, Judy, and one brother, Vincent (Malik).
Thomas attended a private school in his Junior and Senior year at Northside High School. As an adult he relocated to Albany, NY where he called home.
Thomas worked at Albany Medical Center for years as a Patient Escort, until he became disabled but he loved working there especially with the elderly. It was his JOY conversing in conversations and interacting with them.
Thomas would come to the city to visit family but stayed for a very short visit. He loved Albany and the surrounding villages.
He was called "Tommy" by his family members. His friends called him "Thomas", and the ladies called him "Big Poppa". He was a big man, a gentle teddy bear, a mommas boy and he would never denied that and loved big beautiful scrumptious ladies.
Although, Tommy loved all his nieces he had enjoyed hanging out with the "fellas" his nephews. He would talk about everything under the sun from sports to politics but the ladies is what he enjoyed talking about the most.
Thomas didn't borne any children but he was very close and had a personal relationship with his friends five children who was part of his life until his untimely death
Although Thomas endured challenges in his life, this past year has been one of his most challenging ones, becoming a Quadriplegic, Tommy's spirit never waviered because he believed this to shall past.
On Saturday, October 10, 2020, our Heavenly Father called Thomas home to his eternal rest. Even though family communicated by zoom and phone calls, this nasty covid-19 pandemic prohibited visits and he died alone at Troy Center Rehabilitation and Nursing. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Tammy Matthews and Berlita Simmons
