Obituary

Theodore William Wilson, Jr., affectionately known as "Teddy" was born on September 6, 1928 to the late Theodore W. Wilson, Sr. and the late Arline Battle. Teddy was their first born son of their seven children (Juanita, Joan, Jack, Martha, Alice, and Clinton). Teddy was born in Harlem Hospital. He lived and grew up in the Village of Harlem, New York. He was educated in the New York City Public School System. He attended PS 90, JHS 139, and Harren High School. He worked for the United States Postal Service before enlisting in the United States Army in 1950. While serving in the Korean Conflict, he rose to the rank of SGT First Class. After serving his country for three years, he received an Honorable Discharge on July 26, 1953 and returned home. During one of his leaves, he met and married Lillian Causer. This union would produce two daughters, Yvette Katrina and Valencia Marie. Teddy was a hardworking man who provided well for his family. His outgoing personality and social skills led him to work for many years as a Manager in the Hospitality Industry. He worked in many bars, restaurants, and lounges around the Harlem area and the Bronx, including The Flash Inn, Embassy Lounge, Carolina, and Nick's Corner to name a few. Although Teddy was fun loving and very social, there was also a very serious side to him. As the eldest of the family, he felt it was his job to protect his family. This caused him to be very close to all his siblings and their children. He had a thirst for knowledge and could always be seen reading some type of book. He loved reading history books especially. He loved sports and used to play on a softball team. Later in life, he coached little league. He also had a quest for the finer things in life and shared this with his two daughters. He introduced them to Broadway plays, opera, ballet, fine arts, and foods of different cultures. He shared his love of jazz and classical music. Teddy was very popular and liked to attend all family functions, but what thrilled him most was becoming a grandfather and a great grandfather, which meant he finally got some sons. When he separated from his wife, he met Delores Kelly with whom he lived until his death. Teddy departed this life on February 26, 2015 and has gone on to join his parents; siblings, Juanita, Jack, Martha, and Clinton; and grandson Terrill. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his devoted daughters, Yvette and Valencia; five grandchildren, Kenya, Katrina, Jaymin, Quaeyana, and NaQue; eight great grandchildren, Destini, Lorell, Jacori, Jaida, Journi, Jazlyn, Jaxson, and Aria; two sisters, Joan Burton and Alice Wilson; one sister-in-law, Susie Wilson; adopted sister, Rose; his loving life partner, Delores Kelly; nine nieces, seven nephews, and a host of family and friends. Lovingly submitted by the Family
