Obituary

Sybil Williams Allen was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 4, 1928. She was the fifth of six children born to her proud parents, Adolphus and Ambrozene Williams. She grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from High School in 1947. After High School, she met Thomas Allen and they were married on June 10, 1956 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in New York. She was a Data Entry Clerk for the state. Sybil Allen loved life and lived life. She had style. She loved Broadway, music, politics, and the Home Shopping Network. She traveled with her close friends to Atlantic City, took bus trips to Washington DC, and went on cruises. She would go to shows at the Apollo Theater. She was a member of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, part of the OPEIU, Local 153, and a member of the Lenox Terrace Association of Concerned Tenants. She was independent, vibrant and active at 93 years, a true Harlem girl. Harlem was where she wanted to be. Sybil Allen departed this life on March 6, 2021. She was the last surviving sibling of the Williams family. We are saddened but know that she has gone to be with her parents, her brothers, Stanley and Cleveland, and her sisters Violet, Mae Helena and Laura. She leaves behind a sister-in-law and six nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Sybil will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched. Lovingly submitted by The Family
