I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness. - II Timothy 4: 7-8
On Friday, March 14, 2014 an angel gently eased into the room of Sudie Marie Dudley Johnson at the Visiting Nurse Service Hospice and led her through the door of eternal rest.
Sudie Marie Dudley Johnson was born October 17, 1924 to the late Cecil and Eugenia Dudley in Washington, North Carolina. Sudie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Spring Gardener Baptist Church of Washington, North Carolina. She joined Canaan Baptist Church of New York City under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Wyatt T. Walker.
Sudie received her elementary and high school education from public schools in Washington, North Carolina. She attended Elizabeth City State Teachers College in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and furthered her education in New York City to become a nurse. Sudie met and married the late James Johnson. To this union was born William (Butch) Johnson and Gladys (Glad) Johnson Walker.
Sudie worked at Harlem Hospital as a nurse in the Pediatrics Unit for 35 years before retiring. After retiring, she enjoyed life by helping people and traveling. In her later years, she became a dietician at the St. Joseph Catholic Church until her health began to decline.
Sudie became a resident of DeWitt Nursing Home, February 19, 2001. She met new friends and they called her Queen of Room 1208. While at DeWitt she rededicated her faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. Sudie is preceded in death by her sisters and brothers William (Tobe), Joe, Bertha, Mary Lee, and Thomas (Bird). Sudie was a loving mother, sister, and aunt.
