Obituary

Our beloved Stuart Kenneth Sutton, affectionately known as "Stu", was given rest on June 18, 2021. Stuart was born in New York City on October 26, 1944 to the late Marian Jones and Joseph Brown. He was educated by the New York City Public School System where he explored an interest in the culinary arts. Stuart was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked for Metro-North Railroad for many years in track maintenance. Stuart was an excellent cook. He took pleasure showing off his culinary skills for his family. He was especially proud of the biscuits and applesauce he made from scratch. As a teenager, he loved baking for his brothers and sisters. He enjoyed being in the kitchen so much that he sometimes cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with no help from his wife. The only thing Stuart loved more than cooking was listening to old-time gospel music. Mighty Clouds of Joy, Swanee Quintet, and The Five Blind Boys were his favorite groups growing up. Being one of twelve children instilled a deep love of family in Stuart. His brothers and sisters were his best friends. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always the life of the party. Wherever he lived – New York, California, or Ohio, people naturally gravitated to him. He was the best at finding humor in the most unexpected situations. He was happiest when he made others laugh. A true Harlemite, Stuart could often be found holding court with friends up and down 7th Avenue – usually sporting his NY Yankees fitted or his Kangol. Stuart took special care of his granddaughter, Kelsey, and loved taking her to museums, the zoo, and different parks around the City. He especially looked forward to taking her to church on Sundays. Spending time with his grandchildren meant everything to Stuart. They will miss their "G-Pop" more than words can describe. Stuart leaves with saddened hearts and cherished memories, his children: Stuart Sutton, Shamrod Sutton, Cheron (Tariq) Sutton-Brock, Kelly Sutton, and Kimberly Sutton; his grandchildren: Shamrod, Stuart, Rahsaan, Mehki, Jameel, Jayden, Kelsey, and Yaqub; his siblings: Carol Sutton, Terry Sutton, Shelly (James) Moore, Anthony Bush, and Leslie Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Stuart was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Sutton; his daughter, Taneesha Sutton; his siblings, Georgia A. Wallace, Robert Sutton, Ralph Sutton, Josephine Bush, Daryl Bush, and Paul Bush.
