Obituary

Sheila Scoggins was born on June 12, 1954 in New York, NY to the late Pauline Scoggins and William Dowling. Sheila spent her childhood years in the Bronx with her siblings. She assumed responsibility over her siblings early and helped take care of them. This followed her into adulthood. She was always looked upon as a mother figure whom they respected. As an adult, she met Henry (Kike) Lopez. This union was blessed with three sons: David, Alexander, and Michael. Henry left the home when the boys were young, leaving Sheila to raise them alone. She brought them from boyhood to becoming the strong young men they are today by tough love and nurturing. After graduating from high school, she furthered her education at the Wilfred Beauty Academy where she attained her Cosmetology license. She had a love for hair and makeup and an even heavier passion for the kitchen. She always dreamed of opening a family restaurant with Shanequa and David. She found happiness and peace while she was cooking and you tasted the love in every bite. There wasn't anything she couldn't cook or find a recipe for. Sheila had a joyful spirit which she expressed through music, dancing, and giving everyone a nickname (which stuck forever). People would get so used to calling you by your nickname that your real name was often forgotten. Her grandchildren were her life. She loved, adored, and spoiled them. She even raised her granddaughter, Dymond from three days old. She was a wonderful and caring person who took pride in being a second mom to her grandchildren, instilling in them the same values she placed in her sons. Her grandchildren loved her and never wanted to disappoint her. Sheila departed this life on March 16, 2015 and leaves to cherish fond memories: three sons, David, Alexander (Chuloo) and Michael (Scooch); four grandsons, Michael (Chubbs), Nikko, Makai, and Alexander (AJ); eleven granddaughters, Tarah, Patricia (Sulene), Dymond (Cukoo), Danita, Keia (Funny Face), Kayla (Little Chubbs, D'Yanni (Crazy Girl), D'Asia (Munch-chichi), Millionaire, Zenia, and Milan; a great-granddaughter, Genesis; brother, Kenneth; a niece, Brandis (Munch); a nephew, Justin (Porky); daughters-in-law, Shanequa, Delia, Nellie, and Carmen; two special friends, Jean and Vera; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
