Obituary

Shavon John was born on March 21, 1976, in New York NY, Twin B, to Deborah Darden-Byron and the late Vincent Byron Jr. Shavon grew up in Harlem with her with twin sister Sharhonda and their little brother Vincent. She attended and completed her studies at P.S. 133, JHS 43 and Murray Bergtraum High School. Shavon began her college studies at John Jay College and later graduated from Monroe College in the Bronx, NY. As a child Shavon was feisty yet friendly and those who knew her best can attest that she was a joy to be around. She enjoyed jumping double dutch and playing jacks outside with her sister and friends on 129th Street. She also loved to dance and sing along to her favorite songs on the radio. Shavon loved family and on October 14, 1995, she earned the title MOM, as she was blessed to welcome her first baby boy, Shawn. She married Francis John in August 2003 and was blessed with Francis II, Safiyya, and River. Shavon loved her children unconditionally. They were her pride and joy, her will to fight and her strength to journey on. Shavon loved family time whether it be holiday get togethers, camping trips, family vacations, weddings, baby showers or birthday parties. You could always find the twins busy making sure the family time was a great time. Two of her most treasured moments was the birth of her grandbaby Courshawn and the weekend at Vincent & Carole's when The Big Twins babysat the Baby Twins. Shavon loved playing spades and Uno, cracking jokes and surprising us with her rendition of the River Dance. Although Shavon worked in several different capacities, she landed her dream job in 2014 as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Degann. She was loved by her coworkers and patients, and she truly admired "The Best Boss" Dr. Degann. Shavon faced many health challenges throughout her life. She was forever grateful to her brother Vincent who selflessly donated a part of his liver to her approximately 6 years ago. The road to recovery was not easy, but Shavon pushed, prayed, and pressed on. She went to the office in pain but with a smile all the way up until November, when she went into the hospital. It doesn't matter if you knew Shavon as one of the twins, a classmate, coworker or a friend; you knew that she exemplified sisterhood, motherhood, friendship, and family ties. On August 18, 2022, after a long and hard - fought battle at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Shavon entered into eternal rest. Shavon was preceded in death by her grandparents Curlann and Waymond Darden, Marietta Gordon and Vincent Byron Sr.; her father Vincent Byron Jr., and her sister Shameequa Darden. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her devoted mother, Deborah Darden Byron; husband, Francis John; her loving children, Shawn( Courtney), Francis, Safiyya and River; grandson, Courshawn; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharhonda and Sidney Turner; brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Carole Darden; sister and brother-in-law, Tonee and Greg Tatum; her Godmother, Grace German; Godson, Kendell Sabal; her nieces and nephews, Jahnai, Marcus, Sidney, Jaivon, Parker, Savannah, Evangeline and Dominic; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We loved her dearly, but God loves her best. Lovingly submitted by The Family
