Obituary

Ruth Marie Edwards was born on January 1st, 1926 in Norwalk Connecticut. She was the second child of Idella and William Clayton. Ruth graduated from high school in 1944 becoming well educated in the public school system. Ruth worked as a clerk at the Internal Revenue Service in the Bronx, NY. She later attended the Central Nursing School on Roosevelt Island to pursue her career as an Licensed Practical Nurse, working at City and Elmhurst Hospitals. In 1969, Ruth decided to make a career change, becoming a Licensed day care provider in order to be home full time with her daughters. On February 15th of 1989, Mayor Ed Koch cited Ruth as a "very special citizen whose diligent and dedicated service enabled working parents to provide a better and more stable life for their children". On June 30th of 1954, Ruth married her soul-mate Milton Edwards at St. Charles Church in Harlem. They were married for 53 happy years and had three daughters Karen, Michelle and Yvette and were blessed with their only beloved granddaughter, Dominique. Ruth genuinely cared about people and always had a kind word for everyone. She will be remembered for her pleasant demeanor, words of wisdom, and compassionate heart. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her witty sayings would always leave you smiling. Ruth was "Christian to the core". She had a deep abiding faith in God which enabled her to persevere through all of life's challenges. Ruth was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, cherished aunt and a dedicated friend who will forever remain in our hearts. She is now our angel in Heaven watching over us. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Milton; treasured sisters Eleanor and Josephine; and her cherished brother Theodore. Ruth leaves to cherish fond memories: her devoted daughters Karen, Michelle and Yvette; her beloved granddaughter Dominique; and dear sister-in-law Cora Clayton of Lithonia, Georgia. Ruth leaves to mourn a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who will miss her caring spirit. We will forever love you!
