Roslyn Priester was the first of three daughters born to Louise Wilson-Dykes on a gorgeous Saturday on March 3rd, during the leap year of 1928 in Ashton, SC. Roslyn was doubly blessed to have a second family in the McCoys.
After graduating from high school, Roslyn became heavily involved with social committees in the community, and at one of the events, she met, started dating and fell irrevocably in love with Matthew Priester. They moved to Harlem, and it was there that they put down their roots and raise their two daughters, bookended by two sons in the Valley.
In addition to being a mother of four, Roslyn led an active life working at Chock-Full- o-Nuts and then later at the US Postal Service, where she retired from. Retirement was just a chapter ending in her life, and her new chapter was just beginning. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to see different parts of the world, spending time with family and friends and attending the Dewitt Reformed Church on Rivington.
Roslyn, respectfully known as Elder Priester at Dewitt, has been a member for over 40 years! She loved participating in all the church activities and fund raisers. In addition, she served on the President's Council of the Classis of NY, the Christian Education Committee and the Women's Guild. She loved studying the bible and absolutely loved singing! She loved singing so much, not only did she sing in the Sanctuary Choir, she was in the Mass and the Praise Choir as well. She enjoyed singing in the choir as much as she enjoyed singing Karaoke at the Pit and HenryStreet Settlement senior centers in her neighborhood.
Roslyn was so busy up until 2020, even her grandchildren would have to find a way to sneak into her schedule. She loved going on organized trips with her friends, crafting, volunteering and baking the most amazing apple cake you've ever tasted. An avid foodie, Roslyn loved trying new restaurants and went out several times a year with "the girls" in her Birthday Dinner Cub.
Roslyn was predeceased by her husband, Matthew Priester Sr., her daughter Minnie Priester and her two sisters, Margaret and Dot. Roslyn leaves a legacy of family to celebrate her life. Celebrating her life are her children; Matthew Priester 2.0, Jeralyn Priester, Myron Priester and her daughter in law, Vicky Priester.
