Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that Robert Lee Graham of New York City, born May 28, 1934, has ascended to glory to make his transition on November 9, 2020, at the age of 87 years old. He was born to his mother the late Fannie Carter-Graham and father the late Richard Graham and has joined his ancestors. He was the youngest of six children. Robert Graham began his career 1953 as a Baker at Tasty and Silvercup Bakery, The Bakery Confectionery Union, New York. Robert Graham married the late Marie Grayson-Graham in 1954. While working as a Baker, Dad's passion was his love for music. Robert was always tinkering with technical equipment, keeping up with the latest gadgets. His passion for music led him to deejaying in the parks, school yards, etc. throughout the neighborhoods of Harlem. Robert participated in many New York City wide demonstrations lending his support to various civil rights issues. Robert lost his parents as a child. As a result, he grew up in the foster care system. The late Harriet Wade became his foster mother. Robert's childhood background could have been the motivating factor why he was a unifier for families. He was always stepping up as a father to the fatherless and devoted friend sharing compassion, love, financial and moral support. In his later years, he loved to ride his bike and then his scooter through Central Park playing music. His (extremely loud – LOL!) music, on his Bose system, he selected all types of genre songs. He stated, "the police never bothered him because he was the King of New York City" and the people loved him and his music. While Dad loved music, he was also a professional photographer and known throughout Harlem as "Mr. Rob" the photographer. He had a talent for creating the unique photographs while using the most elaborate backgrounds. His pictures were known throughout Harlem. He took pictures of people in the neighborhood, generation after generation, while also taking photographs of many stars who are well known today. He was preceded in death by: his ex-wife Marie Grayson-Graham-Smith, his son, Robert Jr.; his son-in-law, Chukuemeka Ugo Oguamah, of Nigeria, and his siblings, Gloria, Richard, Theodore, Thelma, and Frances Graham. He will be lovingly remembered by: two daughters, Deborah Graham-Oguamah-Gbehounzo and Barbara Graham; grandson, Sahim Lucas; granddaughter, Psyche Travis, all of New York; Tony Danwasso Gbehounzo-Viossi of Benin; his loving ex-wife and confidant, Adina Turner, four sons, Richard, Eric, Royce, and Raymond Graham; grandsons Royce Jr., Eugene and Hakim Graham; daughter-in-law, Janet Graham. A special recognition to a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-great grandchildren, godchildren, other relatives and friends. Zoom ID 81743256838, Password 029327
