Ricky Cornelius Burt, the only child of Rufus and Juanita Germany Burt born on November 22, 1972 in the borough of Manhattan in New York City in Metropolitan Hospital. He departed this life on May 24 at his residence in New York City.
Ricky grew up in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. He attended Martin Luther King High School on the upper West Side. Being very intelligent and full of potential,Ricky went on to attend Borough of Manhattan Community College earning an Associates in Arts degree. After receiving his Associates Degree, he enrolled in Hunter College where he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1998. He landed a job with the Knot.com, a wedding service website where he was able to utilize his computer technology skills. When his position at the Knot.com ended, he embarked on a career in retail at Banana Republic. During his career at Banana Republic, he become proficient in a variety of positions from cashier to customer service to visual design. His performance in these positions led to him being sought after to peruse a management career with the retailer. He was computer savvy, a bibliophile and a cinephile who could often be found immersed in various films and books. He enjoyed writing stories particularly in the realms of science fiction and horror. He would often collaborate with his childhood friend, Herbie, he writing the stories while Herbie would provide the illustrations in a style similar to that of graphic novels.
Although he was single, he was blessed with family and close friends. One his closest friends was Sadiqa (Sassy)Thomas who when it came time to select a Godfather for her children, Kymasya and Charlyze Thomas, chose him for the honor. He took his role as a Godfather to Sassy's daughters seriously, providing them love and whatever type of support they needed. He also maintained a relationship with Benjamin Germany his only cousin residing in New York City. They often spent the holidays together along with his mother, his uncle William and Aunt Vanessa. He enjoyed hanging out with family, friends and co-workers displaying his intelligence, sense of humor, quick wit and fun loving spirit.
Ricky leaves behind his loving parents, Rufus Burt of Harlem, GA and Juanita Burt of New York City. He also leaves behind to treasure his memory numerous family members including his uncles William (Vanessa) Germany of New York City, James Eddie Germany, Moses (Cheryl) Germany and Willie Albert (Diane) Germany of Harlem, GA, Richard Germany of Augusta, GA, Curtis (Jessi)Germany of North Augusta, SC, He also leaves behind several aunts including Nellie Pearl Jennings, Ida Warthen, Annie Mae Germany, Genora Germany, Vivian (James Willie)Paschal and C. Louise Burt Moore of Harlem GA, Readell Germany and Darlene (Michael) Carr of Grovetown, GA, Bernice G. Lewis of Augusta, GA, an abundance of cousins and friend.
