Obituary

Peter A. Anderson, of Harlem, New York, died unexpectedly on May 20, 2016 at the age of 74 at home. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Goodwin-Anderson and his extended families, the Garlands, the Hicks and the Goodwins. He is predeceased by his brother, John, and mother Elizabeth Anderson. Peter was born in New York, on January 6, 1942. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1967. He graduated from Patterson College with a degree in Literature. On October 24, 2010, he married his friend and fellow activist, Gwen Goodwin. Peter retired last year from a 37 year career as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. Peter worked vigorously to end racism and for equality for the African American Community. He marched with Black Lives Matter and was a member of the Coalition to Save Harlem. He was an avid reader and loved "The Daily Challenge." Peter loved music and said the world would be unlivable without it. He was a spiritual man and had deep faith in God. He also adored animals, especially his cats, Tabby and Red. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Gwen, his friends and all who knew him. The funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on May 29th at the Park Avenue Christian Church located at 1010 Park Avenue, New York, New York. Pastor Alvin O'Neal Jackson will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The service will follow. Contributions in memory of Peter may be made at the church.
