Obituary

Perry Lovelace Smith (a.k.a. Lace, P-Funk, Hi-Pockets, Lovely, Perriwinkle, Wild-Man Fargo and King Joffe-Joffer) was born on Monday, March 8, 1943, at 8:30 a.m. to parents Pauline Smith Boston and Wallace Boston in Augusta, Georgia. He was the eldest of eight children, Franklyn, Dorothy, Gertrude, Jean, Robert, Shirley and Nadine. After moving from Augusta, Perry was raised in Brooklyn, New York where he attended and graduated from Boys High School. At a very young age, Perry acquired a great love for playing the drums, dancing and singing. Playing the drums was his first love. He played and sang with different performers and groups in the states and abroad (i.e. The Crests, Joe Frazier and The Knockouts, Wilson Pickett, The Pazant Brothers and The Beaufort Express, Charlie Lucas, Millie Jackson, Sammy Gordon & The Hip Huggers, Melba Moore, Lenis Guess, Frank Dell & the New York Connection, Ray Schinnery and a host of others.) Perry's other profession was a security officer at The MTA on Madison Avenue for over thirty years with his brothers in the name of love, Ray,Tony,Esau, Dain and Blood. In recent years when he was in good health, Perry enjoyed spending time with family, watching TV and hugging his "girlfriend", the remote. :) He leaves behind to cherish fond memories: his wife Claudia; sons, Jason, Michael, and Curtis; granddaughter Jada; sisters, Jean Sharpe, Nadine Boston, brothers, Robert Boston; Aaron "Sharky" Thompson, Dennis Thomas (his brothers in the name of love);mother-in-law, Carrie Anderson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Vickie & John Tetsola, Rochelle & Jacob Lacewell, Beverlyn & Raymond Tucker, Tracey Anderson & Laverne Tapley, James & Connie Anderson, Debra Bush and Melvin Anderson; his nieces, Tamika and Nikole; nephews, Daniel, Nicholas, Jermaine; Goddaughters, Airaina Griffin Knight, Eva Janae Shakesphere, Nikole Clayton and a host of other family members and friends. Perry may have passed on but he will forever remain in our hearts and in our minds. He will truly be missed.
