Obituary

Pearl (Pearlie) Salters was born on November 17, 1936, in Charleston, South Carolina. Pearl was born to the late Idabell Grant. She was the eldest of thirteen children. On Thursday, February 24th, 2022, our beloved Pearl gained her wings, and transitioned home to be with her Lord and Savior. Pearl attended St. Andrews Parish School. As a single mother of two young daughters, she obtained employment at the County Market and as an independent housekeeper to support her family. Pearl then met and married her husband, Richard Salters (who preceded her in death). The family moved from Charleston, South Carolina to Summerville, South Carolina. With their union, they had five children. Pearl was a loving wife and mother. She loved caring for her children and spending time with other family members. Pearl often traveled back and forth from Summerville, SC to New York, visiting family members. In 1968, after the passing of her husband, Pearl relocated to New York with her children. Following the relocation, Pearl welcomed her eighth child. Pearl continued to work hard to provide for her children. Pearl was a loving, humble, caring, giving, and a spiritual woman. She enjoyed listening to gospel music on the radio and watching the gospel channel on TV. She always kept her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, with all the many challenges she faced as a single parent. She always praised God for the many blessings she received. Pearl, often called "Pearlie" by her children. and "Maw" by her grandchildren, was truly loved and will be deeply missed. Pearl was preceded in death by her mother, Idabell Grant; husband, Richard Salters; daughter, Rebecca "Tiny" Grant; son, Robert "Kenneth" Salters; brothers, Asbury Grant Jr, Thurmond Grant, Jesse "Vernon" Grant, and Larry Grant; sisters, Elizabeth Ancrum and Marie Jefferson. Pearl leaves to mourn and cherish her loving memories: her six children: Louise Grant Watkins (Chad), Richard Salters Jr. (Iris), Elizabeth "Sissy" Salters, Patricia "Mummy" Salters (Fiancé Man), Leon Salters, and Shirley Salters; eleven grandchildren: Donald Grant, Debbie Grant-Lark (Kelvin), Jerome Grant (Lynette), Richard Salters III. (Jessica), Elizabeth "Angel" Salters, Kimberly Salters, Aaron Salters, Lamar Sanchez (Lynette), Terrence Dubois, Patrick Salters, and Leon Salters Jr.; eleven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; siblings: Gene Grant (Shirley), Willie Grant (Mozell), Thomas Grant, Julius Grant, Julián Grant, and Isabell "Sherry" Freeman (Lawrence); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. Pearlie will be dearly missed by all who loved her and whose lives she touched.
