On Monday morning, June 1st, the Lord called home our beloved angel, Pamela "Pammy" Cotto; returning her home to her parents, Carmen Cotto and Bejamin Greene, her lifelong mother, Ana Cotto, and her aunts and uncles who have helped to mold her into the woman we all remember. Pamela was a Harlem native. Raised by her Puerto Rican grandmother, Pamela's first language was Spanish. In elementary school, Pamela learned to speak English and was then enrolled into (all) advanced classes. While Pamela has endured many trials and tribulations, education was something she cared for very passionately. After raising her two children, Pamela decided to further explore education. She then pursued her Associate's degree, which she attained with Phi Theta KAPPA societal honors. She then continued with her Bachelor's and was granted Cum Laude honors. Pamela was a helper. She had many jobs working with organizations such as Board of Education, non profits that helped recovering addicts, disabled people, homeless and family services. She volunteered feeding and providing resources to those less fortunate. In her last years, she gave her life to the Lord and all He serves. She got baptized and passed many tests to become a part of her church, Second Canaan. After which, she began training and became a Nursing Aid to the Pastor of Second Canaan. The endless memories of Pamela will forever be with us and a part of her entire family. Pamela was a mother, a leader, and always a helping hand. While she first gave birth in 1986, she had been helping raise her cousins since just 5 years old! One of the best cooks ever- Pamela will be forever known and missed for her delicious meals and her kindheartedness. Anyone, at any time, could come over and enjoy her meals, or could call her to vent or for a favor and would know they were safe and satisfied. Pamela held a great capacity for respect which she gave to others and in return, was always given to her. Her strength and wisdom was unlike anyone. She possessed a "seen it all" spirit about herself which attracted people from all walks of life. You could trust her advice for any single thing. She always carried her family with grace and accepted all responsibilities with no complaints. She is simply irreplaceable and incomparable. In her journey home, Pamela leaves an unwavering spirit and never ending memories with us always: to her son Rasheed and her daughter Kadidja. To her life partner, Derrick "Mr. Washington", to her aunt and uncle: Luz and Roberto. To her siblings: Grover, Tish, Patty, Lisa, Troy, Deedee, and Ada. To her pseudo children: Princetta, Shayvonna, and Shanti. To her cousins: Desiree, Haywood, Leticia, Benji, Carla, Darrly and countless other cousins, friends and peers. Forever she is with us.
