Obituary

Monique Adelle Washington was born on August 22, 1966, in Harlem, New York to the union of the late Louis Oliver Washington and Alyce Washington Plummer. Monique attended grade school and junior high school in the New York City Public School system. She attended and graduated from Jane Adams High School. She then went on to work various jobs. She met and loved Mervyn Torres and from that relationship their son, the light of Monique's life, Marc Vincent was born. Monique had a very loving spirit. She was able to express her love for you via phone call or text message in a way that would fill and warm your heart beyond measure. Her genuineness was simply golden and left an indelible impression on your soul. Whatever her challenges were, Monique took the time to ensure her loved ones knew how special and valued they were to her. Listening to music and watching TV as well as late night snacks which included cheeseburgers, well actually anything and Pepsi were Monique's favorite pastime. She loved her jeans and sneakers, she was an "around the way" girl. You could always count on Monique for her unique hair color and styles, she kept that hair "did"! On the 2nd day of April 2022, our family chain was broken, and we lost our beloved mother, niece, cousin, godmother, and friend. Monique was preceded in death by her older brother, whom she adored, Vincent Washington. Monique leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Marc Vincent; one aunt, Robyn A. Washington; two uncles, Keith E. Washington, and Vernon A. Washington; one great-aunt, Emma Pleasant; one nephew, Tajh Washington; two goddaughters, Tashira and Tahira Orosco; and a host of cousins and friends. She will also be gravely missed by her friend and father of her son, Mervyn Torres, as well her cousin, who she lived with and spent her last days with, Alice Carrington. Monique, like the blink of an eye, You are gone too soon. Like the briefness of the wind, You are gone too soon. Left to wonder why, You are gone too soon. Life forever changed, for You are gone too soon. Hope and joy are yet to return, for You are gone too soon. It breaks our hearts that, You are gone too soon. Rest easy beloved.
