Mildred "Millie" Mickens was born January 15, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Minnie Palmer. She moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when she was one year old.

She was blessed with two children, Theresa Palmer and Charles Palmer.

Mildred retired as a recovery nurse from Saint John's Queens Hospital after thirty-six years. As a grandmother, she was generous, loving, and compassionate.

Mildred is survived by her six grandchildren, Kyron Robinson, Charles Mack, Kisha Palmer, Tanya Mack, Tyisha Palmer, and Kashawn Marquez; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and devotion to family and friends.

A precious one from us is gone,

a voice we loved is still.

A place is vacant in our home,

which never can be filled.

And after a lonely heartache

and many silent tears.
