Michelle Lee Evans, affectionately known as Cookie, was born on February 27, 1969, in Henderson, North Carolina, to Bettie Lee Evans and Jim Nowell Evans.
In 1971, Cookie and her family moved to the lower east side of New York City. There, she spent her childhood with her siblings, Michael Colbert, Teresa Evans, Lisa Evans, Clarissa Colbert, and Casandra Colbert.
As a child, Cookie was outgoing, adventurous, and nothing short of a comedic genius. She enjoyed making friends and making people laugh, both of which she did with an ease only she could.
After moving to Harlem, Cookie had two children, DeJona and Godfrey. She later became the grandmother to four grandsons, Steven Mayol, Godfrey Coggins, Giannis Coggins, and Liam Mayol.
Cookie enjoyed the outdoors and nature. In adulthood, she attended annual camping trips with her special friend, Daniel Doss, better known as Danny Boy.
During her life on earth, Cookie was a free spirit who understood the uncertainties of tomorrow and lived out each day in the ways that bought her peace.
On March 19, 2022, Cookie departed this life and has gone to join her parents; her brother, Michael Colbert; and niece, Cherise Lewis.
She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: her children, four grandsons, four sisters, a special friend, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Cookie will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
