Maria Esther
Gonzalez
Oct 28, 1945 — Mar 27, 2026
Maria Gonzalez Medina, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and woman of unwavering
faith, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Connecticut at the age of 80.
Maria's life was a beautiful example of love in action. She devoted herself fully to her family,
raising her five children with strength, discipline, humor, and an endless capacity for care. She
was the beloved wife of the late Efrain Gonzalez, who passed away on September 29, 2022.
Together, they raised 5 kids in Spanish Harlem, NYC and built a home that became a gathering
place filled with warmth, laughter, and faith. Her family was her life's work and her proudest achievement.
Maria had a strong Catholic faith that guided her throughout her life and provided the foundation
for the values she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Her faith was quiet but
powerful, present in her daily routines, her prayers, and the love she showed to everyone around
her.
She had a beautiful habit of singing and humming as she went about her day. Whether in the
kitchen, tidying the home, or spending time with family, her gentle melodies created a
comforting soundtrack to everyday life. Those simple moments now live on as treasured
memories for the people who loved her most.
Maria's hands were rarely idle. She poured her love into crocheting and knitting warm blankets
for her children and grandchildren—gifts made stitch by stitch with patience, care, and devotion.
Each blanket was a physical expression of her love, meant to provide warmth and comfort long
after it was given. She was also known for her generous heart and open home.
Maria believed that food was love, and no one ever left her house hungry. Family, friends, neighbors, and even first-time visitors
were welcomed to her table. Sharing meals was her way of bringing people together, and her
kitchen was often the heart of family gatherings and celebrations.
Maria was a woman with a wonderful sense of humor and a firm, loving personality. She spoke
her mind, stood strong in her beliefs, and loved deeply and fiercely. Her strength helped guide
her family through life's challenges, and her laughter made the joyful moments even brighter.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry her spirit with them: her children Efrain
Gonzalez Jr., Maria Valdes, Edna Gonzalez, David Gonzalez, and Daniel Gonzalez. She was a
proud and devoted grandmother to Phil Gonzalez, Oscar Valdés, John Soto, Fabian Valdés,
Madison Wheeler, Mia Gonzalez, Jay Gonzalez,Julian Gonzalez, Andy Tavares and Katrin Tavares.
Her love lives on in each of them and in the generations that will follow.
Though her passing leaves a profound void, her legacy remains strong in the values she instilled:
faith, family, generosity, resilience, and unconditional love. Her voice, her laughter, her songs,
and her warmth will be remembered always.
Maria Gonzalez Medina's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will
live on forever
