Marguerite A. Singleton Shaw was the only daughter born unto Ella Jane Parker on July 8, 1926 in Richmond, Virginia. She received her education in Virginia before migrating to New York City. It was there, she met and married Shelby Singleton Sr. who preceded her in death over 15 years ago.
Upon arriving in New York, she became a member of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ. Later, she became a member of Salvation and Deliverance, where she proudly served as an Usher.
Marguerite lived a full life, reaching the age of 94.
She was raised a fisherwoman and loved the sport all through her life. She also loved to travel, go to professional dog races, and had her share of throwing parties at her home with close family and friends.
One of her favorite early morning activities was taking early morning breakfast drives with her husband, Calvin Dave Shaw. She dined on tea and toast and he'd have coffee and a bun. They would talk the mornings away in the privacy of their vehicle, before his death on November 28, 2009.
Marguerite leaves to mourn and cherish great memories: three children, Shelby Singleton Jr., Howard Singleton, and Marguerite Singleton; at least five grandchildren, Michael W. Brown Jr., Barry N. Brown, Anthony M. Brown, Aaron Singleton, and Alicia Singleton; and a host of family and friends.
