The youngest of three children, Marcelino Ray Lopez, Jr, was born in Cuba on June 2, 1937 to his proud parents Marcelino, Sr. and Anna Lopez.
Marcelino was educated in Cuba until the eighth grade, whereupon he left his schooling to support his family. In 1957, at the age of twenty, Marcelino migrated to the United States. Under the coaching of Troy Patterson, he pursued his lifelong passion for the sport of boxing. Soon after, Marcelino met and fell in love with Sara Martinez. The two were married in 1964. Their blended family of four turned to five when their union blessed them with a beautiful baby girl, Marta Lopez.
In 1966, Marcelino hung up his boxing gloves and started a long tenure as a Housekeeper at Metropolitan Hospital. For thirty-five years, Marcelino was a dutiful and loved employee up until his retirement in 2001. Affectionately named "Cuba" by friends and family, due to his love of dancing and playing maracas, Marcelino spent his retirement enjoying Latin festivals and spending quality time with family.
Marcelino was called home on May 18th, 2020, to join his parents, his wife, Sara, and his son Ronald.
He leaves to mourn: his daughters, Marta and Cynthia; his grandchildren, Dijon, Ilea, Lisa, Lora, and Jasmine; and his great grandchildren, Dilan, George, and Lucas.
Marcelino will be dearly missed by all he touched along his journey.
