On Friday, April 15, 2022, Makia T. Sherman, loving mother of two, passed away at age 42. Makia was born on February 11, 1980, in New York, New York, to Barbara Sherman and Jameke Royal. Makia received her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College in New York in 2003. For seventeen years, she practiced as a paralegal for the New York City Law Department. She gave birth to her first child, Makayla, on May 26, 2003, soon after her college graduation. She then gave birth to her second child Michael Jr. on November 2, 2006, and raised them with Michael Cummings Sr. Makia was selfless and loved to help others. She participated in Parent Teacher Associations, Edgecombe Avenue's Block Association, Shop Stewardess for her Union, and many other activities. More than ever, she took pride and provided lots of support in her children's extracurricular commitments and school. Makia was known for her contagious bright smile, warm personality, and loving embrace. Makia leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: her children, Michael (aka "MJ") and Makayla; her father, Jameke; her mother, Barbara; her sister, Jasmine; her brother, Dwight; her grandmother, Margaret; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
