Lydia Arroyo-McKiver was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to her proud parents, Santiago and Ana Lydia Arroyo, on May 19, 1944. She was the first of two children.
The family migrated to New York City a few years after her birth. They settled in the Borough of Manhattan.
Lydia was educated in the New York City public school system for her elementary and secondary years.
Lydia gave birth to two sons, Melvin Arroyo and James Clark Jr. She met and married Jimmy Williams and later married Thomas McKiver, both of whom preceded her in death.
Lydia always was a hard worker. She worked in the garment district for over thirty years. She also worked as a manager for a car wash business which later led her to manage multiple apartment dwellings.
Lydia was extremely active in her community and served on the Board of Directors for 1199 Housing Corp., where she resided.
She remained active in her community until her health began to fail.
Lydia departed this life on March 22, 2022. She has gone to join her grandmother, father, mother, granddaughter, and both husbands.
Lydia leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: two sons, Melvin and James; sister, Carmen; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Lydia will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
