Luz Maria Torres Goy was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to her proud parents, Pedro Torres and Luz Maria Goy, on May 2, 1931. She was the oldest of seven children.
She attended elementary school in Puerto Rico. The family moved to New York City in the late 1940s and settled in the borough of Manhattan. She later went on to recieve her GED, quite an accomplishment for a working mother of five.
She was married in 1950 to Ruben Ramos and unfortunately was widowed shortly after, This union was blessed with one child. In 1955, she met Victor Vizcarrondo and remarried; they were blessed with four children.
Luz Maria or Dona Luz, as she was respectfully called, worked in the garment district and was a well known seamstress in her community. She was sought out by family and friends to make wedding dresses, sweet sixteen dresses, mend clothing, etc.
In her later years, she moved back to her cherished Puerto Rico, where she lived for the past 30 years. There she took pleasure going to San Juan, Fiestas Patronales, Fiestas de Cruz, etc. and enjoyed her musica y cultura.
Luz Maria, el roble de la familia, departed this life on December 7, 2013 and has gone to join many loved family and friends.
She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: three daughters and two sons, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers, y muchos sobrinos, sobrinas, relatives y como familia y vecinos.
Luz Maria will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
