Obituary

Kenneth G. Delapenha Jr., known to family and friends as "Unc-Unc", was born on November 9, 1940, to Margorie O. Delapenha and Kenneth G. Delapenha Sr., in Harlem, NY, the older of two children. He departed this life peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2017, in Yonkers, NY, in the presence of his niece, Darlene, and God Sister, Janet. Kenneth received his elementary school education at PS 133 Manhattan. He went on to Frederick Douglass Junior High School, also in Harlem, New York. Then, he attended Charles Evans Hughes High School and graduated with a General Course of Study Diploma in June 1959. Kenneth was then admitted to the Bronx Community College. During his college enrollment, he took the NYC civil service examination for employment in the NYC Transit Authority. However, he was drafted into military service, where he served two years, as an Artillery Radio Mechanic in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged, in October 1969, and was immediately employed by the NYC Transit Authority as an electrician. He retired at the age of sixty-two (62). As a young boy, Kenneth loved to build model airplanes; he also enjoyed photography. He acquired his nick name ("The Fish"); because, he loved the beach and swimming. As he settled into his elder years, you would often find him at one of his favorite casinos. He also had a profound love for music - Jazz being his favorite genre. Sometimes, you could find him sitting in his car...listening to Jazz...on the car radio. Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory: his brother, Godfrey W. Delapenha and sister-in-law, Mary L Delapenha; his niece, Dawn D. Delapenha-Boyer and her husband, Gary E Boyer, Jr; his niece, Darlene D. Delapenha; three great nieces, Ariel Reyes, Dhymond Boyer and Dhamira Boyer; one God sister, Janet Thompson; two stepsons, Derrick Moultrie and Kevin Moultrie and his wife, Monica Moultrie; and grandsons, Miles, Derrick, and Derrick Rashad Moultrie. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, in his early adult years May he rest in peace! In deepest sorrow, The Family
