Obituary

Juanita S. Williams, the beloved daughter of Minnie Mae Dimpson and Amil Singleton, was born November 9, 1920, in Winter Park, Fl, born to Minnie Mae Simpson and Amil Singleton. Sadly her parents passed at an early age. Juanita was raised by her Uncle Henry, Aunt Lidia Simpson, and her brother, William Posey.

In 1940, Juanita came to New York on the Alamo Boat with her Brother, William Posey, to live in Harlem. Her young life was filled with entertainment and adventure, enjoying the music and dance culture of the Harlem Renaissance. Her Christian faith found her in church on Sunday morning, and she gave back in every way possible in her spare time. Juanita took odd jobs, including; being a seamstress and a housekeeper, until she became employed by the city of New York. She worked as a supervisor on Wards Island with troubled youth.

After meeting James "Jimmy" Williams in her early 30s, the two would bear a son, James Ronald "Ronnie" Williams, and a daughter, Karen Denise Williams, in the late 1950s. Juanita was a supportive, loving, dedicated woman to her children and family. In 1974, she became a grandmother. She was known as Nana to her first grandchild, Tasheeka Williams. Two years later, her first grandson, Damion Williams, was born. As the years went on, she was blessed with five more grandchildren Ronte Johnson, Rory Williams, Tiffany Williams, Mark Morris- Williams, and Ronniqua Morris-Williams. Juanita was also blessed to see and help raise nine Great-Grandchildren; Tashayla Williams, Brianny Maldonado, Jawara Gilbert, Talia Maldonado, Amari Major, Amaya Johnson, Seven Williams, Sirius Williams, and Tazmir Terry.

Along with her extended family and friends, she raised, counseled, and gave shelter to the many who came to her door in need. Juanita was a loving and generous member of the Bronx community, where she raised her children and welcomed friends and family into her ever-widening nest of love and care. Blessed to see the age of 102, Juanita was a matriarch to her family and those who knew and loved her.

She departed this life on January 8, 2023 but she leaves us behind to cherish fond memories of her quick smile, jokes, a little spice, and the word of God that was always on her heart and lips. Juanita will always be loved, intensely celebrated, and will continue to be truly missed by those who loved and knew her.
