Juanita Brye, affectionately known as Nita, was born February 23, 1949, in Evergreen, Alabama, to the late Willie J. Brye and Buice Horton-Brye.
Her family migrated to New York City when she was a small child. She received her education in the New York School System. She graduated from Louis Brandeis High School.
Juanita found Christ at an early age. She was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. H. B. Bolden of L.M.T.B.C. She served on the Junior Choir, Young Adult Choir, and Usher Board. She served as President of the Usher Board until her passing. As a faithful usher, she was a United Usher Benevolent League member.
As a concerned resident, she served on the N.Y.C.H.A. Resident Watch.
Nita departed this life on June 10, 2022, and has gone on to join her father, Willie J. Brye; brother, Wesley J. Brye; and son, Kevin D. Brye.
She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: her children, Joyce Pinckney, Keith Brye, and Kenneth Brye; her mother, Buice Brye; ten grandchildren, Shon'due McDonald, Da'christian McDonald, Kev'yn McDonald, Hazel Brye, Taliyah Pinckney, Desmen Brye, Kardan Brye, Tianna Brye, Madison, Brye, and Ameer Brye; great-grandchildren, Quin'cere McDonald, Zi'lani McDonald, and Zah'mir McDonald; two sisters, Geneva Brye and JoeAnn Merritt (Leroy); one brother, Anthony Brye; two uncles; special friends, Andrea Bolden, Deloris Warren, Deloris Bush, Mary Yearde, and Sarah Gamble; and a host of other family and friends,
