Joseph McCrae was born February 4, 1935 in Latta, South Carolina. He was the only child of Dahlia Heart. Around the age of eighteen, Joseph joined the Marine Corp, where he went on to fight in the Korean War. After serving his country, he went to work at Nursery Plastics as a Supervisor, where he met the love of his life, Shirley Mae Jones. They married on September 30, 1961. Joseph worked for the NYC Housing Authority for over forty years, until he retired in 2006. Unfortunately, that same year Shirley departed this life on October 21, 2006. They had no children. Joseph was a very kind, loving, gentle, caring man who was there for you, whatever the situation was. Joseph departed this life on Sunday, July 19, 2020. Joseph leaves behind, to carry his legacy: a loving family consisting of a sister-in-law, Christine Norris; brothers-in-law, Larry and Alvin Lattimore; nieces and nephews (who considered him a second father); and a host of other relatives and friends.
