Obituary

Mr. Joe (John Carl) Williamson, lovingly known as "Darnell', was born on July 21, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Jimmie Lee Williamson and Uralee Gordon. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Joe was a remarkable man whose vibrant personality, generous spirit and quick wit brought joy to everyone who knew him. Among his greatest pleasures were discovering the finest R&B, blues and jazz music, as well as classic movies that he eagerly shared with his family and friends. Joe had a passion for thrift shopping and possessed an extraordinary eye for finding designer treasures and unique items. Finding exceptional bargains brought him great joy, especially when he was shopping for the people he loved.Joe attended school in Montgomery, Alabama and New York City. He valued knowledge and was an avid follower of the news and current events. He always stayed informed about what was happening in his community and around the world. Joe always made it a point to keep others informed and engaged as well.Joe leaves to cherish his memory his sisters, Dianne and Demetress; his brother, Darryl; his nieces and nephews, Cynthia, Shavtria, Patrick, Darrell and Thomas. He will also be deeply missed by his great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and a host of treasured friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.Though Joe is no longer with us, his love of music, his gift for finding beauty where others might not look, and the joy he brought to his family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
