On December 3, 1943, Marie Pinkney and Robert Pinkney were blessed with the birth of a son, John Pinkney in Reminisc, South Carolina. John departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on August 20, 2020.
John received his education in the South Carolina School System. He worked as a butcher for many years. John met the love of his life, Stella Fortune, and they were married on September 8, 1971. After migrating to New York, together they raised three children, Gary, Sharon, and Eugene Jr.
John loved to hunt, play cards, dance and had a great love for pork, especially pig feet. John had a great sense of humor with a laugh that was contagious. He was a compassionate man and often referred to his wife as his "Princess". John was loved by everyone. He was the life of the party.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Robert Pinkney; six sisters, Lizzie White, Sarah Canty, Katie Bowman, Betty Braswel, Alice Green, and Julia Fordham; one brother, Thomas White.
John leaves to cherish loving memories: his wife, Stella Pinkney; three children, Gary Fortune, Sharon Brown, and Eugene Fortune Jr., all of New York; grandchildren, Shanta Brown, Jimmy Fortune, Shannel Massenberg, Tanya Cole, Ebony Marie Vega, Barbara La-Trel Vega, Barry Davon Vega, and Isiah Laquon Bowman, all of New York; one brother, Blease White of Granger Indiana: sisters-in-law, Sarah (Thomas) Jamison of New York, Rosa Fortune of South Carolina, and Diane Joye (Joe); brothers-in-law, Eugene (Sandy) Fortune of New York, Jerry (Welithia) Fortune of South Carolina, Calvin (Jeraldine) Fortune of Georgia, Theodore Fortune of South Carolina, and Vincent Fortune of New York; godchildren, Clifford Solomon, Claudette Myers, Zy'Kira Shaw, Zy'Mir Shaw and Lakanaw; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
