Obituary

Joan Ellen Braxton was born on March 2, 1947 in New York, NY. She was born to James Braxton, an Auto Mechanic, and Josephine Braxton, a business owner of a tax firm. She is the youngest of three sisters, Joslyn and June. Joan attended Jane Addams High School in the Bronx, NY with dreams of becoming a nurse. Joan worked many jobs throughout her life such as: a nurse aid, food server, and helping her mother at her tax firm. Eventually, she became a Database Clerk at MTA. A career she would thrive at for almost 15 years. Joan brought two sons into the world, Darrin Hill and Justin Braxton. Darrin served in the U. S. Army and Justin is a business graduate from CUNY Medgar Evers College. Joan worked hard to make sure she could give the best life to her sons and instill in them to have integrity and value in everything that they do. Joan was very sociable, well liked and had great fashion sense. She was always known for her polished look, and always wearing her favorite lipstick in the shade "Berry". She was also a Catholic and a devoted religious person. Joan loved many things in life whether it was spending time with her friends, watching movies, and reading great books. She also loved playing the lottery in her free time. Furthermore, she loved pets, cats in particular. To add on, she loved cats so much, she was coined the nickname "Aunt Kitty" by her family. Joan was called home on February 26, 2021, leaving her family to cherish fond memories. She is survived by: her eldest sister, Joslyn Jackson; her youngest son, Justin Braxton; her closest friend, Barbara Hall; niece, Judy Lanier; nephew, Wayne Jackson; her great nieces: Jewel Danielle, Nicole Hines, Jasmine Jackson, and Sabrina Young;great nephew, Desmond Hines; and other family members.
