Mr. James Baxter was born in Shelby, North Carolina on June 22, 1938, to the late James and Eddie Colia Littlejohn Baxter.
Mr. Baxter was educated in the Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools, NC. As a young adult, he migrated to New York, NY, where he made his home for more than sixty years. After an extended career of working in security, James retired from Wells Fargo Security in 2005.
Mr. Baxter was a longtime faithful member of Mount Neboh Baptist Church. In his early years with Mount Neboh, he worked on the Usher Ministry and in his later years, he served as one of Pastor Johnnie M. Green, Jr.'s Trusty Armor Bearers.
He met and later married the love of his life, Lisa Outlaw. This union was blessed with one son, Gregory.
After a long and fruitful life, James quietly transitioned to his eternal home on March 8, 2022. He fought a great fight and endured until the Lord decided he had suffered enough and called him home to rest. He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon (Chipper) Gary; his dear sisters, Betty Baxter, Larsteen Yow, Juanita Baxter, and JoAnn Dobson.
James leaves a legacy of love to his beloved wife, Mrs. Lisa Outlaw Baxter; his five daughters, Teresa (Calvin) Suggs, Beverly Orr, Sharon Coleman, Karen Jackson, and Pamela (Ron) Phillips all of Winston-Salem, NC; sons, James, Jr., Johnathan, Jimmy all of New York, and his youngest son, Gregory Baxter of the home; and sister, Annette Gregory of Winston-Salem, NC. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, all of whom have enjoyed the endearing and jovial laughter that he shared with us all.
