Isidro was born in Christiansted, St. Croix; U.S. Virgin Islands to his proud parents, William Henry Benjamin and Hosanna Christian, on March 23, 1930. He was the sixth of seven children.
Isidro attended primary and high school in St. Croix. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. After receiving an Honorable Discharge and spending some time back in St. Croix, Isidro moved to New York permanently in 1956, settling in Harlem, where he worked as a chauffeur and attended college before receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Medgar Evers college and his Masters' degree from City College. After college, he worked on Wall Street briefly, then worked for the US Postal Service as a Statistician, before retiring after twenty-six (26) years of dedicated service in 2003.
Isidro liked to travel and visited many parts of the world during his time. In addition to being an avid reader, Isidro was a member of the New York Urban League and a well accomplished piano player.
Isidro departed this life on August 5, 2021, and has gone on to join his parents, as well as his brothers and sisters, Egbert, Sylvian, Lolita, Evadney, Ozalia and Romalia.
Isidro leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: his nieces, Lyra, Sharon, Sonia, Grace, Juanita, Vanessa, and Desiree; nephews, Arthur, Sonny, Tony, Ulric, Anthony, Alan, and Raymond; and a host of other grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Isidro will be dearly missed by all those lives he touched.
