Obituary

Ina Lolita Ross was born in Christiansted, St. Croix (USVI) to proud parents, Anesta Griffith and Samuel Ross. She was the last of five children: Donald, Roosevelt (Lee), Etla, and Una. Ina enjoyed her childhood and loved when her mother affectionately known as "Mama," cooked meals for her. Ina was educated in St. Croix at Midland Moravian School. Ina grew up in the town of Glen (USVI) and was employed in Puerto Rico as a child care giver. With dreams of living in the big city, Ina moved to New York. She continued her work in child care until 1980 when she began working as a Home Attendant. She retired in 1994 and resumed her first love of child care with her grandchildren. Ina met James Peartree (Snookie) with whom she shared a loving partnership for over 50 years. They were inseparable. He lovingly referred to her as "Ida." Together they raised 8 children Fred (Deceased), Zakiyah (Irene), Frank (Deceased), Leroy (Deceased), Malika (Laverne), Rochelle, Cynthia, and Delroy. Ida and Snookie would share two children, Collette and James Jr. Ina was a God fearing woman and instilled the same in her family. A believer of strong family values, she was feisty, strong and fierce! She loved, supported, guided and protected her loved ones. Ina enjoyed singing, dancing, celebrating birthdays, holidays and family outings. Her love of cooking is what always brought her family and loved ones together. She was passionate about cooking and enjoyed sharing recipes with her children and grandchildren. Ina cherished many close friends: Ina Williams, B, Sarah, Ms. Faye, Celia and Myra Sanders (Cookie). She share a special bond with her best friend Ismay, and her friends Elaine, Athe, Anne, Ms. Alfrieda, Mr. Carl and a host of others, too many to name. Ina departed this life on August 4, 2021, and had gone to join her parents, siblings, sons-Fred, Frank, Leroy and her Snookie. She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: five daughters, two sons, thirty grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and several in laws and host of other relatives and dear friends. Ina will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Lovingly submitted by the family.
