Helen Lee Fairley-Brewington was the only child born to Leila Little and Rev. Reid Fairly in Rockingham, North Carolina. Helen relocated to New York City as a fourth grader in the old P.S. Five which was right across the street from Mt. Calvary Church. Mt. Calvary Church became the family's home church. Helen attended and graduated from Central Commercial H.S. in New York City. After graduation, she was employed by the New York Telephone Company until 1956. She also worked several years for Con Edison and retired from Bloomingdales after twenty years of service. Helen was united in marriage to the late Lester Brewington in her beloved Mt. Calvary Church in 1956. Born of this union was one son, Michael Brewington. Helen was an active member of the Communion Steward and Usher Board of Mt. Calvary. She could be found in her starched uniform on her post every Sunday morning. She was an active member of the Wagner Houses Tenant Association where she resided for over fifty years. Helen departed this life on May 25, 2017 and leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: her son, Michael; two grandsons, Eric and Tyrrell; one granddaughter, Letasha Tiana; four great grandchildren, Mir'a, Ethan, Melody and Aiden; two sisters; and a host of beloved relatives and friends. May God have mercy on her soul.
