Obituary

Gilbert Fernandez was born in Trinidad at the San Fernando General Hospital on February 18, 1953 to Enid Metivier and Philbert Padmore. He was hydrocephalic at birth and was not expected to live beyond six months. There were stories about the daily withdrawal of water from his brain and the care that was needed when holding him to ensure that his enlarged head was well supported. Despite those odds and frequent bouts of epileptic seizures, Gilbert not only left the hospital, but he thrived. In elementary school, Gilbert's favorite subject was poetry. He took great pride in reciting verses to anyone who would listen. In 1973, Gilbert and his younger brother, Patrick, left Trinidad for the United States to join their mother and younger siblings, Patricia and Anthony. In New York, Gilbert worked for many years with a nut factory. But, over time, the frequency of his epileptic episodes made it unsafe and eventually he moved into an assisted living facility. It was there, he met the love of his life, Adeline. He remained at this facility until he was called to join Adeline, his Mom, and his eldest sister, Barbara. Left to mourn his passing and cherish fond memories are: his sister, Patricia; brothers, Patrick and Anthony; sister-in-law, Nikki; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. We are grateful for the years Gilbert was part of our lives and cherish the memories of our shared experiences. And now Gilbert, enjoy the company of those who went before you and enjoy the peace of eternal rest. We Love You! Lovingly submitted by The Family
