Mrs. Ella Mae Edwards was born in Pageland, South Carolina on May 1, 1932 to her proud parents, Valley Blakeney and Susie Pate. As a young woman, Ella Mae relocated to New York City in the 1950's. She worked for a number of years as a Seamstress, finally retiring to take on the role of a "Teacher" and "The greatest stay at home Mom" ever.
For the next 71 years, Ella Mae lived in Harlem, and was bestowed the title of being the mayor of Seventh Avenue. She was that beautiful spirit in the community, a Tree of life for all those that have known her. She was surrounded by a loving host of family and friends.
Ella Mae Edwards departed this life January 20, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Edwards Jr.; daughters Joeann, and Geneva; and son, Scottie.
Ella Mae leaves to cherish fond memories: her sons, David Edwards of Greensboro, NC, Steven Edwards of New York City, NY, and Robert Edwards of New York City, NY; one sister, Marvis Bell of Pinnacle, NC; one aunt, Lou Henry Pate of The Bronx, NY; grandson, Robert Deon Edwards of New York City; seventeen other grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
