Evangelist Ella Mae Harrison was born December 30, 1917, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, one of ten children, of the late William E. and Anna Madrey Watson. She received her early education in the Public Schools of Hertford County, North Carolina.
She was baptized and joined Swamp Chapel Baptist Church, Severn, North Carolina at a very young age. She migrated to New York in 1941 where she met and later married the late Robert Lewis in 1953 until his passing in 1968. Evangelist Harrison then married the late Francis Harrison in 1970.
Evangelist Harrison united with Memorial Baptist Church in 1965, and she became actively involved in the Missionary Circle, the Pastors Aide Club, the prayer band, the Church Sunday School and the Senior Choir. Her love for children led her to teach Sunday School at the State Sunday School Retreat from 1968 until 1983. In recognition of her faithful dedication and spirituality, Sister Harrison was soon made Deaconess at Memorial Baptist Church.
She attended the Union Theological Seminary, where she continued her missionary work with children. She received six awards for her studies in "Growth and Children" at the Union Theological Seminary. She frequently ministered to the sick at North General Hospital as a volunteer Chaplain, and she served as a volunteer in the New York City Public School System in 1994 and 1996, especially for her work with the children of P.S. 149/207. Evangelist Harrison was devoted to helping children in church as well as the public schools, and she devoted many hours towards rounding up young people and personally bringing them to Sunday School each Sunday.
In 1990, Evangelist was licensed for evangelism ministry at Memorial Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Preston Washington. She traveled all over the world as she conducted her evangelistic ministry and she was keynote speaker on many occasions.
In 1992, she moved her church membership to Mount Neboh Baptist Church where she continued her missionary and evangelistic work. She also continued to work in the Sunday School, the Pastors Aide and she sang in the senior choir.
