Obituary

Eddie Joe Traylor, son of the late Damon Traylor and Emma Brooks, was born December 11, 1921 in LaGrange, Georgia. On January 12, 2014 in New York City, God called him home. Eddie received his education in the LaGrange Georgia school system. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 10, 1941 and received an Honorable Discharge on October 10, 1945. Eddie returned to La Grange and later came to New York City. He worked in Harlem, NYC most of his adult life as a handyman and jack of all trades for various businesses. Eddie was very well known, liked and trusted. He never married but enjoyed a long relationship with Patricia Thompson who preceded him in passing. Eddie was so very proud of his service to our country. He would quickly pull out his Veteran card and readily share his WWII experiences with all who were interested. In the last couple of years, he found particular gladness in talking about military service and life with his nephew-in-law, Sam, and sharing his military experiences with his 15 year old great nephew, Warren. Warren never tired of asking questions about WWII and Eddie never tired of answering them. Eddie also enjoyed playing solitaire and watching TV especially the old westerns. Eddie was a quiet and pleasant man who lived his life with simplicity and contentment. He was never one to complain, he took life as it came and was never one to become rattled. His friends have described him as good natured, kind, and one with a great sense of humor. He loved to see his family coming through the doors of 1980 Lexington Avenue, he would shout to his friends, "Hey, here come my nieces". Eddie was so blessed to have Ms. Helen, Ms. Lois, Ms. Edith and other friends in 1980 Lexington who took such good care of him. At 92, he had a sharp mind and memory. Even as his health became more challenging, he never complained. Eddie Traylor was a quiet warrior. He was preceded in death by his parents, Damon Traylor and Emma Brooks; his twin sister and only sibling, Mattie Joe Robinson; and his nephew, Warren Robinson, Jr. Those cherishing the memory of Eddie include: his daughter, Shavon Nicholson Traylor of New York City; a son; three grandchildren, Lerette and Porchia of NJ and Destiny of NYC; three dedicated nieces, Margratta Samuel (James Jr. aka Sam.) of New York City, Yvonne Robinson of Bronx NY and Denise Parker (Anthony) of Fredericksburg, VA; 8 great nieces and nephews, 7 great great nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, neighbors and others touched by his life. If anyone was omitted, we apologize. Please charge it to the head and not to the heart. Thank you and God bless you all.
