Dolores Adams, affectionately known as Dee Dee, was born on August 30, 1957, in New York City, to the late Thomas Sr. and Mary Adams. On June 16, 2022, the Lord called Dolores from labor to reward. Dee Dee was one of seven siblings, two of which preceded her in death: Hattie Hecker and Harold Adams Sr.
Dolores received her formal education from Scott's Branch High School in Summerton, SC, and continued her education at the Community Bible Institute and Seminary.
Dolores started her career with the New York Veteran's Administration (VA) Hospital in 1989, and in April, she celebrated 33 years with the organization. Dolores held several positions within the hospital and in every position; she took pride in indirectly supporting veterans. Dolores was a very active volunteer with Palliative Care and Chaplain Services. Before starting her career at the VA, Dolores worked as a Women's Counselor with Catholic Charities, counseling pregnant women and supporting and guiding them throughout their pregnancy and the early years with their baby.
Volunteerism and traveling were some of Dolores' core values. In addition to volunteering at the VA, Dolores would volunteer at homeless shelters and food pantries/kitchens. She was highly involved in outreach programs within her community. Dolores worked with the Girl Scouts of America and enjoyed participating in their Wilderness Camping experience. Dolores was an active member of the National Action Network for several years.
Dolores was an avid traveler, and it was her dream to visit every state in the USA; she was only seven states away from achieving this goal. One of Dolores's hobbies apart from traveling was music, she enjoyed singing and was teaching herself to play the keyboard.
Dolores was faithful in her walk with God and has been an active member of Greater Allen AME Church of New York and Brooklyn Tabernacle Deliverance Center, where she sang in the choir.
Dolores leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, her siblings: Edward Elliott, Thomas (MJ), Beverly and Irving Adams; nieces and nephews, Shermaine Adams, Kenya Adams, Jamarr Hecker, Joseph Hecker Jr, Kelly Adams Brown (Kwasic), Harold Adams Jr, Tiffany Hecker, Jason Adams, and Andrea Adams; great-nieces and nephews, Deshon Adams, Daquanna Adams, Isaiah Hecker, Dwayne Slade, Jason Adams Jr, Emmalyn Brown, Olivia Brown, Neveah Adams, Jayla Adams, and Atreus Gorham; and a host of other family and friends.
To all who know Dolores, she was a unique caring servant of God who touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
