Affectionately known as Aunt D, Delores Horton, daughter of Forest and Viola Horton was born January 8, 1942 at Harlem Hospital. She was the fourth of five siblings. On Monday May 24, 2021, Delores was called home to glory to be with the Lord.
Delores was always a beacon of inspiration and wisdom amongst everyone who was blessed enough to know her. Her stern demeanor and respected character carried her on to an extremely successful career as a Registered Nurse.
Graduating from Julia Richman High School with Honors and perfect attendance for which she was rewarded, Delores overcame adversity displayed in all forms. One of which came from a teacher who vocally expressed concern for Delores desire to pursue a career in nursing. Recommending that she instead become a secretary.
Delores was always up for the challenge. Proving that teacher wrong when she enrolled in St. Joseph College majoring in nursing, going on to obtain her Master's degree from LIU and becoming a licensed professional Nurse on October 3, 1974.
Delores was the Head Nurse of Psychiatric Care and the Supervisor of three clinics affiliated with Harlem Hospital for 35 years. After retiring, Delores spent her time at St. Nicholas Center where she enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and other destinations, accompanied by her baby sister, Louis Crawford.
Always a perfectionist, Delores made sure to teach and share the importance of cleanliness. I am sure each child in her presence remembers her constant reminders to WASH YOUR HANDS (adults too).
She was a natural born teacher and took pride in providing knowledge and advice to those around her. The Impact of Aunt D's presence can be felt beyond the generations she has met.
Delores is survived by: her sister, Louise Crawford; and sister-in-law, Helen Horton. Delores leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews including, Robert and Valarie Mayfield, Derrick, Keith and Jermaine Horton and sister Connie Simmons, Denise and Kenny Horton, Alton, Christopher, Doreen, Donna, and Althea and Clayton Crawford. She also leaves behind a host of great and great grand nieces and nephews.
Delores cannot be replaced and will be missed dearly by all her friends and families.
We love you Delores Horton, But God loves you BEST!!
