Obituary

Celestine Delores Barnes was born in Norfolk, Virginia to her proud parents, Herman and Flossie Teagle on March 4, 1942. She was the first of three children. The family migrated to New York shortly after and settled in the borough of Manhattan, where she received her schooling. She pursued a career as an elementary school teacher and also dedicated herself to the inner city youth. Celeste, as she was affectionately known, was actively involved with James Weldon Johnson Senior Citizen Program and attended Saint Luke's Baptist Church until her health began to fail. Celeste's wisdom and grace has made a tremendous impact on her family and friends. Her loving spirit has transcended and blessed generations. Celeste will especially be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and courageous strength. She was best known to promote family unity. Celestine departed this life on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the age of 72 , and has gone on to join her parents. She leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories: her two siblings, Danny Lee Teagle and Wanda Teagle-Lugo; two daughters, Wanda Hendricks and Harriet Teagle; six grand-children, Richard, Michael, Phylicia, Terence, Tanya and Tanisha; her great grandchildren, Teirrah, Terence Jr., Tracelyne, and Mekhi; her niece, Pamela; two nephews, Daryl and Dwayne; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. Celeste will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
