Betty Ann Etheridge was born in Sumpter, South Carolina to the late Odell and Samuel Felder Sr. Betty was the last of six siblings, which all preceded her in death. Betty moved to New York City with her siblings to be raised by her older sister Louise and her brother in law Clifton Williams Sr, after the death of her parents, in her preteen years. Betty then met her husband at the age of 14.
The two of them later got married at the tender age of sixteen. As years passed on, they moved to the Bronx, NY for better living to raise their four children Ather Odell, Julian Ann, Brodie Jr, and Christopher Lee. Betty joined Sharon Baptist Church of Bronx NY, where her and her eldest daughter Odell was baptized. She worked at Kiddie Bargain World for over twenty years holding many positions, retiring as a Shoe Department Manager.
Betty was a quiet, loving, humble individual; as her sister in law Jeannie Haynes would say, "She was a hand picked flower". Some of her hobbies were cooking, fishing, traveling, watching her soap operas, and enjoying family time. She loved making her traditional food: chopped BBQ with coleslaw, hopping john, coconut pies, and sweet potato pies. From a teenager to her last day, she had to have Pepsi soda with her meal. She took pride in the growth of her family size. She was indeed a virtuous woman of grace, who had a thing for fashion and shopping. Betty had a love for children. She began taking classes at the Good Shepherd Children Center, where she obtained her license for child care. After being an empty nester for several years, she started raising children all over again; Naquana, Anthony, and Dashawn kept her youthful and brought such joy to her life.
In later years, she joined Second Canaan Baptist Church, and recommitted her life back to Christ. While there, Betty served on several ministries and became a Deacon. She took pleasure imparting the Word of God into the lives that she encountered.
Betty lived a complete life, she transitioned on her seventy-second birthday, suddenly, on May 10th, 2021 at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She leaves to mourn: her husband of fifty five years, Brodie Lee Etheridge Sr.; her seven children, Ather Etheridge, Julian (Dexter) Lezama, Jay (Denita) Etheridge, Christopher (Martha) Etheridge, Naquana Etheridge, Anthony Etheridge, and Dashawn Etheridge; grandchildren, Sheeka, Shameeka, Shateeka, Louis, Cisco, Dominique, Paul, Jillian, Javasia, Ilana, Sequoya, Ravon, Neiko, Casmere, Cashay, Chassity, Ceasia, Charles, Leah, Christopher Jr. and Lauren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
