Benjamin Franklin Garret was born on January 26th, 1925 in Sanford, NC to his parents, Reverend John Garret and Louise Watson Garrett. He was the fourth of five children. He was affectionately called Benny by family and friends. Benny completed Junior High School in North Carolina before moving to New York City to live with his older sister, Ada. He supported himself by working in a restaurant and doing odd jobs. Benny met and married Leontine Wright in 1943. This union was blessed with six children. Benny served in the Armed Forces during WWII. Upon being Honorably discharged, from service, he took a job with Con Edison and worked there for several years. After passing the test for the Department of Sanitation, he worked until retirement, where he gave 30 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leontine. He later married Florence Albany. Together, they raised her two nieces. In Benny's younger years, he played golf regularly. He would read the entire paper from front to back. He also deeply engaged himself in politics. His favorite shows to watch were "Meet The Press" every Sunday and "Real Time With Bill Maher" on HBO. Over recent years, he enjoyed watching Jerry Springer which he found entertaining. Benny lived a full happy and healthy life. He was blessed with a very large family and a plethora of friends.
